FIR ’10: Reading Question #9

FIR is hosted by Katrina atCallapidderdays.

Every Tuesday this fall, Katrina will be posting a question about reading.

Today’s question: Once you begin a book, do you feel compelled to finish it? Or have you been known to give up in the middle of a book, to walk away from a book that is just too annoying, boring, etc.?

I have to say I think I have only abandoned one or two books in my adult reading life – I know when I was in school there were plenty of times I didn’t finish books but those weren’t books I choose to read. Even if I don’t love a book I am reading, I tend to stick with it, mostly due to the fact that I need to find out how it ends.

What about you? Do you always finish a book once you start it?

***Bonus Question: We have less than one month left in Fall Into Reading 2010! Can you believe it? If you’d like to share…how are you doing? Are you on track with your goals? Will the upcoming holidays derail your reading plans?

I am doing pretty well – I listed 25 books to read for this challenge and so far I have read 16 on the list plus 8 not on the list. I am in the middle of reading another one from my list and listening to one that is also on the list. That leaves 6 on my original list that still need to be read plus I know I have to read 3 other books not on my list before the end of the challenge. I think I might be able to finish…although it might mean doing nothing but reading a few days!!!

I try to finish all books after I've started them. You can read more on my website: Hott Books.

I'm hoping to get a lot read this weekend but we'll see.I just didn't keep very good track of my TBR deadlines. I'll have to work on that!!

I am doing pretty well with the challenge, I only listed 19 books, and have 4 more to go, so I think I can manage to get them read this month.

I generally finish a book if I've started it. Most of the books I struggle with are book club selections (so I feel responsible for finishing it so I can discuss it) and books I got for review (which I also feel responsible for finishing). So if I get a book I don't enjoy, I'll usually at least skim the remainder of the book so I technically finish it.

I'm doing well with the challenge. I have four more to go and am starting two of those this week. I have a few other books not on my list that I have to read in December, so that's my only concern with finishing. But I think I will do it!

I give up if I am not pulled into the plot between 50-100 pages. GL with the challenge!

I am like you–I have only set aside two or three books. But if they really annoy me I do set them aside. I think that two of them have been since I started book blogging!
