FIR ’10: Reading Question #8

FIR is hosted by Katrina atCallapidderdays.

Every Tuesday this fall, Katrina will be posting a question about reading.

Today’s question:Where do you get the books you read? Are you a faithful library patron? Or maybe a bookstore junkie? Do you exchange books with friends or family members?

I tend to get my books from a number of places…

* Library – I do use the library, sometimes more often than others. Most of the time I tend to get my books for my book club from the library because I am not sure I am going to like them much less keep them. I also tend to visit the library book sales…a book for a quarter or a dollar – how can you go wrong? My job allows me to visit all the libraries in my county (18) every few months, so I usually end up with a book or two after those visits.

* Bookstore – My husband and I head to Barnes and Noble every time he needs something to read. While I don’t always need to get a book at that time, I do usually end up finding something I want to get!

* Friends/Family – I am fortunate that I come from a huge family of readers. Just last week, my mother-in-law came for a visit and left me a huge bag of books she had finished reading. My sisters, my aunts, and my dad are always swapping books.

*Authors/Publishers/Publicists – Because of my blog, I have had authors/publishers/publicists contacting me to review books. I am still always excited every time I get asked to review a book – I didn’t start my blog for that reason, but am thrilled with each request.

*Amazon/Target – I do occasionally buy books from these places. I like that Target does get new releases and has quite a decent selection of paperbacks, too. Plus they are usually at a discounted price. If I have a few books I want and my husband is looking for a specific book, then I head to Amazon.

What about you? Where do you get your books?

Wow! You're lucky to get to visit the library. Mine is a bit inconvenient – by that I mean I just don't have time to stop as I'm flying by!

You can read more about where I get my books at Hott Books

I have gotten some of my reads from my local library branch. Like you, I prefer to borrow from a library for bookclub reads unless the book is a "have to have" then I head to Costco, a local bookstore or even a second hand bookstore. My mom and I do exchange novels from time to time and one of my friends and I will borrow from eachother's personal libraries.

How do you make book club selections?

I am a down and dirty book junkie. I love books and buy them anywhere books are sold. My favorite bookstore is Barnes and Noble. It seems any book I'm interested in they either have it or can order it for me. Whereas my library, seems to never have the books I'm looking for and most of the time can't order them for me, or if they do, the book never seems to make it to my library. Although I love my library, and somedays just take my current read and visit the library and set in my little nook and read for an hour or two and then go home.
