Musing Mondays (6.28.10)

Musing Mondays2This week’s musing asks:

What do you think of books that receive a lot of hype? (think of the “Twilight” saga, or “Harry Potter”, or “The Da Vinci Code”). Do you read them? Why, or why not?

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own Musing Mondays post, or share your opinion in a comment here (if you don’t have a blog). Thanks.

**MUSING MONDAYS is hosted by Miz B at Should Be Reading

For me, it totally depends on the genre and/or author. If the book is not in a genre I read, I am not as likely to pick it up. If it is in a genre I read, I am more likely to read it, although I might wait for the hype to die down.

For example, I did not read any of the Twilight books because I am not a fan of vampires. I have no interest in reading these books no matter how much hype they have gotten.

As for the Harry Potter books, I did read them, at least the first six – I still need to see the 6th movie and then I will read book seven. I really enjoyed these books and picked up the first one right before the movie had come out.

What about you?

I agree..I am not greatly moved by the big hyped books, especially if it is a genre I don't usually read. I would put a lot more weight on the opinion of someone who I know shares my taste in books.

Wow, I am really excited to read the musings, which pretty much reflect my own "musing."

    Here's mine:

No, I don't read these hyped up books, they are not books that interest me. I will check out a favorite author if the book is being hyped up, but, that doesn't mean I will read it or even buy it.

I have such a backlog on my TBR shelf that even if books are hyped I usually won't get around to reading it until after the hype has died down.
